Well, the New Year is finally upon us. In fact we are already four days in! Have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet? Some of the most popular resolutions that people will set themselves but subsequently break before the end of January include: Drink Less Alcohol, Eat More Healthier Food, Get a New Job, Lose Weight, and Quit Smoking. However these are all personal resolutions, what about ones for your business? Why not take a moment to think about where your business is right now and where you hope it to be in twelve months from now. Are there elements of your business that can be improved to help you reach your goal? Have a think and then make some New Year’s resolutions for your business. There’s a very good chance that they will be easier to keep than the ones you make yourself! In fact we even have a couple of ideas to help get you started: New Year ~ Time To Get Social There is no getting away from it… Social Media is here to stay.

In fact we even have a couple of ideas to help get you started:

New Year ~ Time To Get Social

There is no getting away from it… Social Media is here to stay. If you have a computer, smart phone or even a television set then you will be aware of social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and many more. They exist to enable people to communicate freely with each other whether through images, videos or text. Within the past twelve months we have seen the majority of television show, movie releases and musicians adopt to social media through the use of Facebook and Twitter accounts and hashtags (words or phrases prefixed with the symbol # and usually used on Twitter and Google+ to tag a message making it easier to find). Why not make 2013 the year that you adopt social media for your business.

At Joolozu we can help you decide which social network is right for you and get you setup in no time at all. Of course that’s only the start of it. It’s all very well having a Facebook account or Twitter account but it’s what you do with it that accounts. If you don’t use it then you will have no benefit from it. We actively manage Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as other social network accounts, on behalf of clients around the world. Whilst they get on and manage their business we manage the social media side of things for them and it’s not as expensive as you might think.

New Year ~ New Website

Is your website looking a bit disheveled in today’s market place. If you’re website is more than two years old there is a good chance that you could do with a spring clean or even a new website. We can integrate social media accounts such as Twitter and Facebook into your website, providing a more interactive experience for your customers. Are your pages updated regularly or is the website pretty static… have you considered adding a blog?

Did you know that search engines such as Google regularly change their criteria for cataloging websites within their directories. Those search engine optimization techniques you employed a couple of years ago to get you to the top of Google’s page listings may not be giving you the same result now and you could be losing valuable customers… when was the last time you checked?

If you would like to talk to us about your social media requirements for 2013, require a new website for your business or give the old one a bit of a facelift then why not contact us.

With Christmas approaching churches are encouraging their leaders to turn to Social Media to spread the word of God. Not only that, they are turning to their parishioners to use social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the gospel. But are they doing enough? A recent survey by Buzzplant revealed that more than 30% of churches surveyed said they update Facebook each day, while close to 15% said they never use the network. Just under half of those surveyed say social media is the most effective method of communication, while about 25% prefer knocking on doors. With these figures there is considerable room for improvement. Churches are lagging behind the social media trend set by businesses. A church should establish a social media policy and encourage posts by visiting ministers and photos from their parishioners. However they should also have someone routinely monitor the messages posted on their Facebook or Twitter pages to remove spam or negative comments. Each church should remain flexible and regularly revisit their policy, making changes where required in order to reflect their position within the local community and the changing demographic of their parishioners. If you represent or belong to a church that is in need of assistance in establishing and managing their use of social media then why not contact us and we will point you in the right direction.

There’s a pretty good chance that when you switch on the TV these days you will find an ever increasing number of television programmes making using of social media. Take a look at the X Factor or your favourite Chat Show and you will see frequent references to either a Facebook or Twitter URL or a keyword prefixed by # and commonly known as a hashtag. When production companies adopt social media for their TV programmes they are encouraging viewers to actively participate while watching a program and have their interactions viewed and responded to in real time by other viewers and, often in the case of magazine, lifestyle and news programmes, by the programme presenters themselves. The US season five premiere of True Blood titled, “Turn, Turn, Turn,” generated over 241,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter yesterday evening, putting it in the top spot for the most talked about US premium cable season premiere to date. Used in the right context all forms of television can benefit by adopting social media including news and current affairs programmes, educational and religious programmes, drama, game shows, and comedies. Social analytics company Bluefin Lab‘s data below highlights the trending moments and hashtags of True Blood’s US season premiere, which also ranks number two all-time for most comments for a cable drama season premiere (behind Pretty Little Liars) and number six all-time for most comments for any season premiere (all genres, all network types).

For a hotel the use of social media as an important communication and marketing tool can be a major influence in targeting customers and generating revenue. Where previously a hotel would have communicated with its customers through advertising, direct marketing and telephone calls, today they are able to manage their use of social media and communicate through multiple channels across the social web. Some of the methods in which a hotel can take advantage of social media include: The concierge service One way in which hotels can adopt social media is through an online concierge service. Providing the concierge desk with access to social media channels such as Twitter or Face ensures that they are available to answer customers’ enquiries directly through these forms of media. Customer relations Interacting with customers through Twitter and Facebook will improve a hotels relationship with its customers. It is also the media that your customers are most likely to complain about the service they receive. With careful management of social media it is possible to successfully recover a previously dissatisfied customer as well as solving problems for customers as they arise. Special offers Traditionally if a hotel wasn’t booked to capacity for any given night there was little they could do about filling the vacant rooms at the last minute. The only recourse was to use traditional forms of advertising, usually at great expense for the return, in order to offer discounted prices for the periods when they expected to be quieter and hope ...

Some of the methods in which a hotel can take advantage of social media include:

The concierge service

One way in which hotels can adopt social media is through an online concierge service. Providing the concierge desk with access to social media channels such as Twitter or Face ensures that they are available to answer customers’ enquiries directly through these forms of media.

Customer relations

Interacting with customers through Twitter and Facebook will improve a hotels relationship with its customers. It is also the media that your customers are most likely to complain about the service they receive. With careful management of social media it is possible to successfully recover a previously dissatisfied customer as well as solving problems for customers as they arise.

Special offers

Traditionally if a hotel wasn’t booked to capacity for any given night there was little they could do about filling the vacant rooms at the last minute. The only recourse was to use traditional forms of advertising, usually at great expense for the return, in order to offer discounted prices for the periods when they expected to be quieter and hope that this would be enough to carry them through. The use of social media marketing not only enables hotels to target their discounts to potential customers at minimal cost but it also enables the hotel to offer last-minute special deals for unbooked rooms.

The corporate hotel chains can afford to employ an in-house team to manage their social media presence but what about the smaller companies, franchisees and individual proprietor run hotels? That’s where the services of a dedicated social media manager can prove useful in overseeing your day-to-day social media efforts.

You might be an actor looking to secure that first major role, a solo singer or rock band trying to obtain that coveted record deal, even an author who just wants to get their novel into the hands of someone who will enjoy reading.

How can social media help you?

If you have the skills then perhaps you have already created yourself a website to promote yourself. A blog would be an added benefit in enabling you to regularly update your website visitors with what you are doing and your latest news. Once you have built a following you will find that a blog can be a useful tool in ensuring visitors return back to your website on a regular basis.

What else could you do?

Well, you should be looking at setting up one or more accounts on the various social networks such Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. This will enable you to increase your following and promote your ‘talent’ to a wider audience. The use of social network accounts like Facebook and Twitter provide you with the potential to reach a global audience.

A talented singer / songwriter from Scotland by the name of Danny Shah did just that. He set up a profile on the social video sharing site YouTube and earlier this year he began uploading videos of himself performing his own songs for people to watch and he quickly built up a reasonable following. Then he put together a new video for his song We Are Connected. Using Facebook and Twitter, Danny forwarded a link for the video to friends, family and anyone else he could think of with a brief message to introduce the video:

Unsigned Scottish Artist Danny Shah has made pop music history by collaborating with some of the planet’s biggest popstars before he’s even signed a record deal.

The video was an instant hit and went viral. Within a week it had been viewed over 500,000 times by people around the world and received positive comments from all who watched it. Not only that it has helped Danny to get his foot firmly on that first rung of that ladder and is instrumental in building him a following of fans who are keen to see what he comes up with next. Without the use of social media this would never have been possible!

The video is included below for your enjoyment. It is the perfect example of what can be done with a little bit of thought, a knowledge of video editing techniques and some hard work.

If you are looking to establish your profile on the social networks but don’t have the skills or knowledge to do it yourself then get in touch. Alongside our Social media management solutions we also offer website design and development services at a cost to suit your budget.

Here at Joolozu we are always on the lookout for novel ways in which social media is used to promote a product or event. One such idea comes from The History Press – The UK’s largest local and specialist history publisher, and we thought we would share it with you. April 15, 2012 marks the centenary anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. In recognition of this event, History Press have set up a Twitter account that tweets the journey of the Titanic day-by-day and minute-by minute as it would have happened 100 years ago. The account @TitanicRealTime began tweeting on March 10 — a month before the anniversary of the Titanic setting sail – and uses hashtags such as #captain, #crew and #engineering to designate where the updates are coming from.
